on september 13th, 2021, the parallel session of the 2021 international conference on industry, education, research and application: opportunities and challenges of beyond 6g communication technology was held online in the college of communication engineering of jilin university. the conference invited professor rui zhang of the national university of singapore, professor wei xiang of la trobe university, professor dushantha nalin k. jayakody and associate professor ivan shanenkov of tomsk polytechnic university in russia to deliver speeches. the seminar was presided over by professor hu fengye and attended by more than 50 teachers and students from australia, russia, singapore, south korea and other countries.

at the conference, professor hu fengye extended gratitude toward the four experts and other colleagues for their support to the development of the college, and sincerely expected the visit of experts and cooperation in the future. professor rui zhang then gave an academic report themed intelligent reflecting surface (irs) for 6g: opportunities and challenges. the report highlighted the latest results for dual/multi-irs assisted wireless networks. by introducing the key functions and applications of irs in achieving spectrum and energy-efficient wireless networks, the speech emphasized the distinctive advantage of irs in its lower cost and better performance compared with the current wireless technology. it also discussed the main design challenges for effective integration of irs into future wireless networks such as 6g, including passive reflection optimization, irs communication channel capture and irs deployment, and outlined the most advanced solutions to them.

professor wei xiang delivered an academic report with the theme of artificial intelligence of underwater things and marine data analytics. the report discussed the application of aiot technology in the field of underwater iot and marine data analysis. it took the great barrier reef in australia as an example to demonstrate how aiot technology can be used to overcome huge challenges, and advance research on monitoring and sensing harsh marine environments.

professor jayakodys academic presentation was named self-energized uav-assisted scheme for cooperative wireless relay networks. the report introduced a unified energy management framework to improve the transmission capabilities of uav with wireless power transfer (wpt), synchronous wireless information and power transfer (swipt), and self-interference (si) energy harvesting (eh) schemes in collaborative relay communications. it has increased the throughput of the entire system by using an fd-based uav-assisted coordination system. the report also raised two optimization issues to minimize the end-to-end interruption probability based on the power profile of uav and the trajectory of the direction-finding relay scheme.

finally, associate professor ivan gave a speech on materials for 6g technology - problems, challenges, tasks. the report discussed the technical support for 6g wireless data transmission technology. it considered the need to obtain protective materials for equipment to prevent electromagnetic radiation in the planned data transmission range (100-200 ghz and above), and explored potential candidates for the role of such protective materials, and how to facilitate dissipation of large heat flows of the main components of electronic systems due to the enhancement of data transmission and the increase in the amount of information transmitted.

after the presentation, the four experts exchanged academic views with the teachers and students, and answered their questions in detail. this seminar further improved our colleges capacity in international academic exchanges, promoted cooperation in the field of wireless communication, and provided a new platform for teachers and students to contact with high-level universities worldwide, especially universities and scientific research institutions alongside the belt and road.
